The original encaustic paintings are made with beeswax and pigment using both classic encaustic methods and unique techniques I have developed over the past decade creating encaustic art. The ground is my own custom gesso recipe on 3/4" birch panel.

This painting utilizes a blind engraving process where an area of the wax is covered with raw pigment that is burned into the surface. The difficult part is not knowing exactly what you've got, or how well you've done, until you wash off all the remaining pigment. You only get one chance to do it right.
