Waiting for the Sun

Waiting for the Sun, encaustic painting

This painting was made with encaustic and printer’s ink, along with my custom crackling gesso recipe. I love to move the wax while it’s still liquid and get it to form the clouds and morning mist over the colors of those great rich pigments. This was inspired by an overnight hike in the Cascade mountains of Oregon. There’s nothing like the way you tend to rise early when camped in the mountains. And nothing better than that fresh caught trout right from the stream and into the pan for breakfast!
