Cypress

CypressI was toying with the idea of calling this one “Preaching to the Choir” but I decided that was too trite. I was working here to combine the free-flowing bloom of the pigmented wax in the foreground with the more stylized, but precise etching of the trees into the wax surface which provided a good deal of rough texture to the elegant growth beneath a roiling sky. Cypress: 24×24″ encaustic on birch panel, 2013.
