I love to heat up those colors once their down on the painting and make them dance with my heatlamp. It’s a marvelous thing the way they react. They each have their own identity and you have to get to know them personally or you’ll just make mud. The background is Prussian Blue pigment is rubbed into the texture provided by my custom gesso recipe. I like the contrasting message of night and day and the deep hues pitted against the glorious bloom of the free flowing lilies.
