Lady in Red

Lady in RedThis was an early experiment with working back into the surface of the wax in a blind fashion. The pigment was spread on the surface and then selectively burned in with a hot tool. It was a demanding way to work, because you couldn’t really see what you had done until the loose pigment was rinsed off. No second chances. Alas, this painting has been sold. Lady in Red: 24×24″ encaustic on birch panel.
